Goodwill Shopping

Boycotting Wal-Mart for their hiring practices doesn't come into it for me. I am a Goodwill Industries shopper. I have been donating and purchasing from Goodwill for over 10 years. I lost some weight and so last Saturday I loaded up the Bonneville with 5 bags of size 2x and 3x clothes and headed for my favorite store. A cheerful little man took the bags and 3 pairs of shoes out of the trunk and lugged them into the back. That is the first reason I like Goodwill; instant disappearance of my unwanted items. No storing them until garage sale season, no agonizing over what to price them. Granted, I make no money on a garage sale, but when I did hold one, I never made much anyway. And that is a weekend better spent going to other people's garage sales. Next I walked into the store. It's bursting with choices of every kind. Need a winter coat, a microwave cabinet, a black tank top, a wicker basket for your photos? It is all here and much, much more. I have bought red satin pyjamas, a suit to wear to church, and Large-Print novels to give to the Senior Center. When my sister died, I donated her many sets of placemats; I just couldn't let them go into the dumpster. Where else can you get a trendy gold-spangled purse for $2.99? A leather jacket for $19.99? A black beret for $1.99? That beret goes with everything and makes me look quite chic. I even discovered that if I had a clear picture in my mind of what I needed I would find it there waiting for me within 2 or 3 weeks. The prices are right and the money goes to help those who need it. As far as I am concerned, there is no downside to being a Goodwill shopper. They even take my plastic and send me coupons. So but me no buts about second-hand clothes. If the shoe fits, I wear it.
